Wide Range pH Test Kit  $8.00

Wide Range pH Test Kit

  • Pond water pH should be between 7.0-8.0/li>
  • Ideal pH for pond water is 7.4/li>
  • At 7.4 pH he toxic effect of excess nitrogen are reduced/li>
  • Pond fish can tolerate alkaline(high pH) water more than acidic(low pH) water/li>
  • The effects of old acidic pond water on fish can be devestating
The Wide Range pH Test Kit quickly and accurately measures the pH of pond water, reading pH levels from 5.0 to 9.0. Makes 160 tests. Testing your water with a Wide Range pH Test Kit can prevent the harmful effects of too alkaline/too acidic pond water resulting from minerals found in tap water, high ammonia levels in the pond, rain runoff or overstocking of pond fish. Includes test solution, glass test tube w/ cap, color chart & instructions. You will periodically want to check your pond's pH so that you can be sure it stays stable and doesn't increase or decrease significantly over time. pH is a measure of the activity of hydrogen ions (H+) in a solution and, therefore, its acidity. A neutral solution has a pH of approximately 7. Aqueous solutions with pH values lower than 7 are considered acidic, while pH values higher than 7 are considered alkaline. Lets explain this a little further. The acidity of a water sample is measured on a pH scale. This scale ranges from 0 (maximum acidity) to 14 (maximum alkalinity). The middle of the scale, 7, represents the neutral point. The acidity increases from neutral toward 0. Because the scale is logarithmic, a difference of one pH unit represents a tenfold change. For example, the acidity of a sample with a pH of 5 is ten times greater than that of a sample with a pH of 6. A difference of 2 units, from 6 to 4, would mean that the acidity is one hundred times greater, and so on.
